Step #01 Draw a circle. Don't get bummed, the circle is the base of the head. Draw it as-soft-as-possible line you could ever draw. For this, i have to make the line kinda dark cuz... yes.. blame it to my crappy old scanner. My scanner won't be able to scan anything that is pretty light and soft >.< man i hate that. Oh yeah... you don't have to worry even if you get an oval instead of a circle^^ so don't freak the hell out on me =P So, are you done with the circle?? Then let's get moving!! Notice the RED horizontal line and the BLUE vertical line?? I guess most of you can figure out what the heck these 2 lines are for. *Someone pop out of nowhere and ask* "Ano...?? those lines are for what??" *Winds-oneechan replies* "The RED line is for the EYE MEASURE LINE." "The BLUE line is for the CENTRAL MEASURE LINE." These 2 lines are super important cuz they help you to determine where the eyes, nose, ears and mouth should be placed. |

Step #02 Once you have the circle, the horizontal line and the vertical line done, you will begin to draw the eyes, nose and the lips. For the ear, i'll explain later in the next step. Here, you can see there're 3 red faded lines, right?? The top and the bottom red line i put it there for more of a guide. Notice the top one, where the eye browns touch the line, that's where the line comes in handy. This line helps you to determine whether the tip of the eye browns are really at the same level. *This line is not necessary if you know whether the eye browns are at the same level. In my case, i don't use them anymore!! Muahahaha =P The bottom red line, is just a guide for you to draw the character's nose. This line is also not necessary if you've become a better artist^^ [Enlarge Image] A much better and larger image than the left one >.< |

Step #03 Now that we have done with the facial features, let's give it the face shape.. that means the chin, jaw and the ears^_^ oh yeah... the neck also =P I won't be explaining much in this step, so will you please click on the link [Enlarge Image] =) I've done much of scribbling the explaination on the image itself... so go there and see by yourself =P |

Step #04 Honestly, i myself don't like this part very much. DRAWING THE CHARACTER'S HAIR!! The hair's the thing that gives the character's look. You can say whatever style you want as long as the hair style suits the character. To start off drawing the hair, i'll say start drawing really light and rough lines or you could also draw geometrical forms, so that you'll have the idea where the bangs are gonna hang out. Also, keep in mind that always follow the line of the cranium. When you draw the character's hair, the head seems to look bigger, don't ask me about this, but it's for real. Just look the left side image... see? told ya. Once you've done with the rough light hair lines, it's detailing time ^^ All i can say for the detailing part needs a lot of practice and patience to master, but believe me, once you're able to overcome that, it is easy as ABC^^ Always have this in your head!! Gravity pulls dead down everything on earth. It's science logic. =P So, the hair goes all way down.. unless your character has his hair stuffed with gel to make his hair stands up or spiky =P *remembers about Naruto-kun's hair... all spiky and... yellow* Follow the stroke of the arrows as the hair flows. Even though there's no wind, the bangs have motion. Here's one simple tip : let your hand loose, don't put pressure on the pencil. Think as if it's as light as a feather. No point putting pressure on the pencil, unless you wanna ruin your artwork >_< Just let your hand loose while making the lines for the hair. That should work ;) |
